Visas for your Bride...Visa requirements vary from country to country and depend on both the destination and origin of the trip. However, here are some general guidelines to follow. For information specific to your own country please use the links provided at the bottom of the page.
A potential bride is coming over to visit you
Q. What kind of Visa does she need? A. She may need a Tourist Visa.
Q. How long does this last? A. Usually for up to 1 month.
Q. How much proof is needed? A. She may be asked to provide:
- Return ticket
- Proof of sufficient funds for her stay
- Illegal immigrants are obviously a concern for may developed nations and customs officials may ask for a great deal of evidence that the trip will indeed last the claimed duration and no longer.
Your fiancée is coming to live with you in your own country
Q. What kind of Visa does she need? A. She may need a Fiancée Visa.
Q. How long does this last? A. From 1 - 2 years on average.
Q. How much proof is needed? A. Your fiancée may be asked to show that:
- you plan to marry within a reasonable time (usually six months)
- you plan to live together permanently after you are married
- you have met each other;
Your wife is coming back with you or will join you in your own country
Q. What kind of Visa does she need? A. She will need to apply for permanent residence.
Q. How long does this last? A. Your spouse will probably have a 1 or 2 year probationary period before permanent residency is granted. When this occurs, permission to stay in the host country will generally be indefinite.
Q. How much proof is needed? A. You may need to prove that:
- you currently live and are settled in your own country; or
- are returning to live there permanently
- Your wife may need to prove:
- evidence that you have legally married and that you intend to remain together as a genuine husband and wife
- you are going to live together permanently as man and wife;
- you have met each other;
- your relationship is genuine
- you can support yourselves and any dependants without help from public funds;
- she is not under 16.
